Business Central licensing & pricing
Dynamics 365 Business Central offers flexible pricing and licensing models so businesses can choose the option that best fits their needs. Discover how Business Central is priced, the different editions, types of users, licensing options, and more.
Cloud-based vs on-premise deployment
Dynamics 365 Business Central can be deployed either on-premise or on the cloud to meet the needs of all companies. Most companies opt for the cloud version of Business Central as it provides great scalability without requiring a large amount of upfront capital. However, companies that already have the in-house servers and capabilities may opt for an on-premise Business Central implementation. Each company should choose the implementation model that best fits their needs.
Benefits:
Licensing options
Microsoft offers two licensing options for Business Central that are both based on a per user basis: perpetual and subscription. Perpetual licensing is only available for on-premise BC and requires companies to pay the full price of the license upfront with an annual maintenance fee. The subscription model is available for both the on-premise and cloud versions of BC and customers pay a per user, per month fee. Additionally, there is no annual maintenance fee since the monthly subscription price is all inclusive.
Business Central editions
Business Central is available in two editions: Essentials or Premium. The Essentials edition includes all the features and functionality of Business Central except for Service Order Management and Manufacturing. The Premium edition includes everything included in Essentials plus Service Order Management and Manufacturing. It is not possible to mix and match editions. If your company requires manufacturing or service functionality the Business Central edition you would need is the Premium edition and all of your full users would be Premium users.
Types of users
Business Central pricing is based on the edition as well as the number of users. Full users are those whose work requires access to the full use of Business Central’s functionality. Team Member users are those who only need basic functionality and perform “light” tasks such as updating existing records or creating quotes. Team Member Licenses can also be used for users that are not tied to a particular function but require read-only access to data.
Essentials Full User
Perpetual: $2,000
Subscription: $70 per month
Premium Full User
Perpetual: $2,800
Subscription: $100 per month
Team Member
Perpetual: $400
Subscription: $8 per month
