Dynamics 365 Customer Engagement licensing & pricing
Dynamics 365 Customer Engagement is a suite of intelligent cloud-based applications (Sales, Marketing, Field Service, Customer Service, and Project Operations) that can be purchased a la carte. Discover the different licensing and pricing options for these applications.
Deployment
Microsoft Dynamics 365 Customer Engagement applications, comprised of Sales, Marketing, Field Service, Customer Service, and Project Operations, are powerful cloud-based customer relationship management (CRM) systems designed to improve marketing capabilities, drive higher sales, and provide excellent customer service. Dynamics 365 applications are built on Azure, Microsoft’s cloud computing platform that provides a great environment to deploy, manage, and build applications on the cloud.
Additionally, Dynamics 365 Customer Engagement applications are licensed using a software as a service (SaaS) subscription model. With a subscription licensing model, you either pay a per user, per month fee or a per tenant, per month fee. This subscription option provides flexibility for increasing and reducing the numbers of users. This is ideal for growing organizations that might be adding more users each month.
Benefits of a cloud-based application
- No upfront cost for servers and associated infrastructure
- No ongoing cost for database and server administration
- Access data and applications from anywhere you have a browser: mobile, tablet, or desktop
- Automatic upgrades when new features are released
- Microsoft guarantees uptime and automatically takes backups to ensure business continuity
Types of users
Dynamics 365 applications are subscription-based and available to license per user or device. Full Users have access to all the capabilities of the system while a Team Member license is only intended for users who require lightweight use of the system through designated scenarios such as time and expense approval. A device license enables multiple users to use a shared device such as a point of sale, shop floor, or warehouse device.

Base and attach pricing
Microsoft offers two types of licensing for Dynamics 365: base and attach. The first Dynamics 365 application that you license will be priced at the “base price” per user or per tenant. Then, additional Dynamics 365 products that you license will be priced at the significantly lower “attach price” per user or per tenant. With this model, Microsoft provides a cost-effective way for companies to license multiple Dynamics 365 products. This licensing option could benefit organizations who require the capabilities of more than one Dynamics 365 application.
It is important to note that Microsoft has certain requirements and pre-requisites in place for attaching additional applications or for determining which license can qualify as the base for another. It is important to review these requirements and pre-requisites carefully before purchasing and attaching additional licenses to ensure compliance with Microsoft’s licensing policies.
