Exploring the new features in Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central 2023 wave 2

Aug 23, 2023

Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central has been a game-changer for businesses seeking a comprehensive and integrated solution for their financial and operational needs. With each new wave of updates, Business Central evolves to meet the ever-changing demands of modern businesses. The 2023 Wave 2 release brings many exciting new features that enhance user experience, streamline processes, and provide more significant insights into business operations. In this blog post, we will dive into an overview and some of the standout features of Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central 2023 wave 2.

Add existing table fields to optimize your pages:

Small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) often need to adjust quickly to changing conditions. This can involve customizing data entry and insights by displaying only the relevant fields for each line of business. Business Central offers a range of tools to hide, show, or move various UI elements. Microsoft is making it easier for administrators, department owners, and partner consultants to add table fields to their pages without developing code extensions. By doing so, customers can self-serve and reduce implementation costs while reducing time to value.

Scan barcodes with the Business Central mobile app and devices

Using the barcode scanner control can significantly enhance the productivity of warehouse users. They can scan barcodes using their device camera or a specialized barcode scanner. Moreover, this feature creates opportunities for partners to design more advanced experiences by incorporating the barcode scanner.

Simplified Power Automate approval flow experience

If you’re looking for a way to streamline your workflow creation process, Business Central’s latest update has you covered. With the addition of new actions, advanced users can now easily create approval request workflows, automated background flows based on external business events, and manual or instant flows. This update dramatically expands the capabilities of Business Central, providing users with a more efficient way to create custom workflows and ultimately improve their overall business operations.

Support business events in the Business Central connector for Power Automate

In the latest release, wave 1 of 2023, an exciting new feature called external business events was introduced as a preview in the platform. This feature allows you to build flows that react to specific business events in Business Central version 22.2 and later. This means you can now hook your flows to particular business events raised by Business Central or even events built by partners who added business event code into their applications. With the new capability directly added to the Business Central connector, you can now create more possibilities for Power Automate flows and Azure Logic Apps to react to events precisely when and how you intend.

Analyze, group, and pivot data on queries using multiple tabs

Analyze mode was introduced to customers in 2023 wave 1. In the 2023 wave 2 release, Microsoft is excited to offer a new feature that allows you to analyze data from any query, just like on a list page. With this feature, developers can join data from multiple tables, giving you a comprehensive view of your data. For example, you can combine data about sales orders with additional information about the customer or salesperson involved. This feature expands your data analysis capabilities without switching between applications. Plus, your data is analyzed in real-time and entirely secure so that you can trust the results.

Use drop shipments for triangular Intrastat trade

Triangular involves trade between three countries where goods bypass the reporting company’s country. In Business Central, you can use drop shipments to handle triangular trade. Turning on the Include Drop Shipment toggle on the Intrastat Report Setup page allows you to easily take scenarios where a company orders goods from one EU country and drop ships them directly to another EU country without importing them into its own country. This saves time and effort. The Intrastat Report will exclude these transactions because the goods were directly delivered between two other EU countries.

Digital vouchers

When managing your finances in Business Central, you can easily attach source documents to each G/L Register to provide proof of a transaction and create an audit trail. You can set up the system to enforce attaching documents if the law requires. Once uploaded, the document can be viewed from the General Ledger Entries in the Incoming Document Files area. You don’t have to worry about accidentally deleting or modifying an attachment during the retention policy period. You can set up the Max to keep your documents organized and manageable. Document Size will prevent you from uploading large files and configure a Retention Policy to establish how long you need to keep attached documents.
