Microsoft announces no June 2024 release for Dynamics GP
In a recent announcement, Microsoft confirmed that there will be no June 2024 update for Dynamics GP. This marks a notable departure from the company’s usual release schedule and has raised questions and concerns among users of this long-standing enterprise resource planning (ERP) solution.
Understanding Dynamics GP and its update cycle
Microsoft Dynamics GP is governed by Microsoft’s Modern Lifecycle support policy, ensuring continuous support and servicing for versions released after October 2019 until 2028. This commitment means that Dynamics GP users can expect to receive ongoing support, hotfixes, feature updates, and tax updates. Typically, under this policy, Dynamics GP receives three updates each year: in June, October, and December. These updates include tax updates, feature enhancements, year-end adjustments, and bug fixes.
In late 2022, Microsoft announced that the October 2022 release of Dynamics GP would be the final update to introduce major new features or modules. Moving forward, Microsoft will prioritize significant investments in new features, capabilities, and modules for their Dynamics 365 cloud offerings.
Additionally, in April 2023, Microsoft outlined plans to phase out the sale of new Dynamics GP licenses over the next three years. On April 1, 2026, no new licenses of Dynamics GP will be sold.
The announcement: No June 2024 update for Dynamics GP
Early June 2024, Microsoft officially announced that there will be no new release for Dynamics GP in June 2024. Instead, Microsoft is shifting its focus towards the October 2024 release. There were several important fixes that were originally scheduled for the June 2024 release (version 18.6) which will now be included in the October 2024 release (version 18.7).
1. Credit card payments multicurrency issue
A fix will be provided for credit card payments set up as check cards in payables, which were missing multicurrency (MC) details in bank reconciliation (BR).
2. Workflow trailing zeros issue
The update will resolve an issue by trimming trailing zeros from amounts and quantities in assignment emails for various workflow types. Previously, notification emails from the Workflow feature defaulted to five decimal places, causing confusion for managers approving these transactions. The affected workflow types include:
- Sales Transaction Approval
- Purchase Order Approval
- Purchase Requisition Approval
- Receiving Transaction Approval
In the October 2024 release, these notifications will display amounts with only two decimal places, enhancing clarity and ease of approval.
3. Email failure issue
A fix will address an issue where emails fail when both the TO and BCC fields are populated but the CC field is left blank. For the time being, as a workaround, users must ensure that the CC field is populated to successfully send emails.
Implications for Dynamics GP users
For businesses using Dynamics GP, the absence of a June 2024 release means no hotfixes or regulatory updates will be available at this time. Users will need to wait until the October 2024 release for these fixes and improvements.
This decision marks a significant shift in Microsoft’s update strategy for Dynamics GP. Users are advised to plan accordingly and stay informed about the upcoming October 2024 release for the latest fixes and enhancements.
